เป็นที่ประจักษ์แล้วว่า
สถาบันหรือศูนย์ศึกษากิจการนานาชาติมีความสำคัญในด้านการสร้างความสนใจ
การแสวงหาความรู้และวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลเพื่อสร้างองค์ความรู้ขึ้น
อันจะส่งผลให้เกิดประโยชน์ต่อประเทศไทย
ในยุคโลกาภิวัฒน์
สังคมไทยเป็นสังคมเปิดมาช้านานและได้มีความสัมพันธ์กับประเทศต่าง
ๆ
นับตั้งแต่กรุง
สุโขทัย
เป็นราชธานี
คนไทยได้เดินทางไปพบปะและทำธุรกิจการค้ากับมิตรประเทศอยู่เสมอมา
ยิ่งใน ยุคปัจจุบัน
การติดต่อสื่อสารระหว่างชาติเป็นไปอย่างรวดเร็วและไทยต้องพึ่งพาการส่งออก-นำเข้าสินค้า
กับประเทศคู่ค้ากว่า150
ประเทศ
ดังนั้น
จึงมีความจำเป็นอย่างยิ่งยวดที่จะต้องทำการศึกษากิจการของ
ประเทศต่าง
ๆ
อย่างละเอียดลึกซึ้ง
ทั้งในด้านประวัติศาสตร์
ภูมิศาสตร์
สังคมวัฒนธรรม
เศรษฐกิจและ
การเมืองของแต่ละสังคมควบคู่ไปกับการศึกษาข้อมูลเกี่ยวกับการค้าซึ่งกระทรวงพาณิชย์และบริษัทที่ทำการค้า
กับต่างประเทศไทยได้รวบรวมเพื่องานเฉพาะด้านแล้ว
การสังเคราะห์ข้อมูลทั้งสองส่วนดังกล่าวเข้าด้วยกัน
จักเป็นคุณประโยชน์อันใหญ่หลวงต่อการเรียนรู้เรื่องราวของประเทศนั้น
ๆ
และสามารถใช้ข้อมูลเพื่อ
ประโยชน์ต่อประเทศไทยอย่างแท้จริง
เกาหลีเป็นสังคมที่คนไทยคุ้นเคยมานานนับตั้งแต่ครั้งที่รัฐบาลได้ส่งทหารไปร่วมรบในสงครามเกาหลี
ีในระหว่างปี
พ.ศ. 2493-2496
และได้ตั้งกองทหารเพื่อเป็นกันชนมิให้สงครามเกิดขึ้นอีกตามมติขององค์การ
สหประชาชาตินับเป็นเวลาอีกสิบกว่าปีหลังจากที่สงครามได้สิ้นสุดลง
อนึ่ง ไทย-เกาหลี
(ทั้งเกาหลีเหนือและใต้)
ต่างมีความสัมพันธ์ไมตรีที่ดีต่อกันมาช้านาน
รวมทั้งต่างได้ทำธุรกิจการค้า
การลงทุน
และแลกเปลี่ยนทาง
วัฒนธรรมและวิชาการเสมอมา
มหาวิทยาลัยรามคำแหงได้ประจักษ์ถึงความจริงในเรื่องนี้
จึงได้จัดตั้งศูนย์เกาหลีศึกษาขึ้นเมื่อ
วันที่ 5
มกราคม พ.ศ.
2538
โดยให้สังกัดในภาควิชาสังคมวิทยาและมานุษยวิทยา
คณะมนุษยศาสตร์
ดังมีวัตถุประสงค์ดังนี้
- เป็นศูนย์ในการค้นคว้าวิจัยสังคมที่ตั้งอยู่บนคาบสมุทรเกาหลี
ในด้านสังคมวัฒนธรรม
เศรษฐกิจการเมือง
ภูมิศาสตร์
ประวัติศาสตร์
และเหตุการณ์ปัจจุบัน
อนึ่งเพื่อให้เข้าใจเรื่องราว
ของสังคมเกาหลีให้ดียิ่งขึ้น
ศูนย์ฯ จึงได้ขยายขอบเขตของการวิจัยออกไปยังสังคมจีน
ญี่ปุ่น
และมองโกเลียอีกด้วย
- เป็นศูนย์ช่วยการเรียนการสอนแก่นักศึกษาในสาขาวิชาที่เกี่ยวข้อง
และเผยแพร่ความรู้ให้แก่ชุมชน
- เป็นอาศรมความรู้ด้านเกาหลีศึกษา
เพื่อสร้างองค์ความรู้ในการศึกษากิจการต่างประเทศ
- เป็นศูนย์ประสานการแลกเปลี่ยนความรู้ด้านเกาหลีศึกษากับสถาบันและแหล่งวิชาการทั้งใน
และต่างประเทศ

Center for
Korean Studies
The Center was inaugurated, under the decision of the
University Council, on January 5, 1995 as an internal
organization with in the Department of Sociology and
Anthropology, Faculty of Humanities of Ramkhamhaeng
University. The prime objective of this Center is to create
interests and to seek understanding, as well as to build up a
body of knowledge of Korea in Thailand.

The Center focuses on its
activities as follow:
1. To be a Center providing assistance on Korean
Studies in all areas, i.e. socio-cultural features,
economy, politics, geography, history, and current
situations of the peninsular;

2. To be a Center assist teaching materials in the area of study for faculty, and to provide knowledge of Korea as well as of
Japan, China and Mongolia to the general public;
3. To be a campus of knowledge on Korean Studies and also to
build up an academic strength in this field through research
and publication;
4. To be a Center for coordinating academic exchanges in Korean studies with internal and international
institutions.

Teaching
Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Faculty of Humanities of Ramkhamhaeng Univeristy
has regularly offerred a course on the Korean Society and Culture ( as well as two classes on the
Japanese Society and Culture and the Chinese Society and Culture) while Department of History on
the History of Modern Korea.Faculty of Political Science has a course on the Politics of Korea whereas
Faculty of Economics on the Economies of East Asian Countries.
Department of Thai and Oriental Languages, Faculty of Humanities, regularly offers courses on
Korean Language as KO 101, KO 102, KO 201 and KO 202
Institute of Language, Ramkhamhaeng University also offers Korean language teaching on 3 levels
to the public on weekends throughout the year.
