Ramkhamhaeng University was the first university expressly established to cater for all Thai people who
 wanted to further their education at the tertiary level-an open university. The ultimate goal was to spread educational opportunities widely throughout the kingdom giving all citizens the opportunity to gain knowledge in their own field of interest. That Ramkhamhaeng University has achieved this aim is self-evident. During the past thirty years it has grown and expanded to reach all provinces. In order to do this it has created an internal and an Internet Computer Network system enabling people all over the country to learn.Now Ramkhamhaeng has a new goal that of providing health care to all people in Thailand. This means providing the facilities and the personnel to allow people wherever they live to obtain quick, affordable health care in the most efficient manner. And that health care provision must be of top quality. The Institute of Health Science has been set up in Ramkhamhaeng University with the aim of achieving this goal. Here courses will provide students with the knowledge to enable health services to proliferate throughout the country. Here training will be linked to health service centres being established in all parts of the country. As a first step a course Optometry will be available, and Optometry service centres will be established in the Provinces. This is also a first for Thailand, as there are no courses in Optometry available in the Kingdom at present. This will be followed by postgraduate courses in Physiotherapy and then later, a course in Oriental Medicine. Cybernetic Health is to accompany this expansion of courses, because, using the excellent Internet Services of the University, health provision can be quickly and efficiently provided to practitioners in the field wherever they are. This is an innovative idea - in Thailand nothing like this has ever been attempted. Furthermore, working with international staff, and inviting international students to learn in these courses, the qualification gained by graduates will be accepted world - wide. Graduates may find job openings anywhere in the world. This too is a revolutionary concept. When these health services are in place, the Institute of Health Science at Ramkhamhaeng University plans to continue its expansion of health services for the Thai people into other areas.
