Principles
and
Rationale
For
many years, the world’s communities
have been
giving
a great deal
of
significance
to
Thai
Studies, since
they
are
well
aware
of
the fact
that
a thorough
study
of
other
countries
in
various
aspects--social, cultural, political, governmental, and
economic--leads
to
genuine
understanding , acceptance, and
friendly
relations
among
the nations.
The
major activity of Thai
and
foreign
scholars
from
America, Europe, Australia, and Asia
interested in Thai
Studies
is the organizing
of conferences in which participants
have an opportunity
to
present papers
and
exchange
ideas
and experiences. So far seven conferences have been organized,
the latest one in
1998 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. The next conference will be held in
Thailand at Nakhon Phanom on 9-12 January 2002, hosted by Ramkhamhaeng
University and Rajabhat Institute Nakhon
Phanom. There are many reasons that support the role of
Ramkhamhaeng University as the organizer of the coming conference with
regards to venue,
3. The relationship between Thailand and foreign scholars will be strengthened through cooperative studies, so that Thailand may be regarded in a better light through correct understanding. 4. Thai Studies can be developed and perpetuated by
the member countries. 5.
Ramkhamhaeng University and
Rajabhat Institute
Nakhon Phanom will provide
a network and
database for
the research results on
Thai Studies in
order to develop
Thailand and
enable foreigners
to have
a better
understanding of
the country. Honorary
